Some comments appearing in various media suggest that Zoellick, nominee for World Bank president, has a reputation for poor people skills and being hard on staff. This suggests that he likely fulfills the A***ole criteria. So I suggest that a foundation, funded by several high profile philanthropists for social and organizational good, be formed for the following purpose. It would be charged with screening the media for indications that a public or prominent figure has such tendencies. Panel members would be anonymous (unless they begin meeting the criteria). Upon a positive diagnosis, they would send a signed copy of your book to the offending individual via a registered method in a carefully wrapped package with receipt confirmation. Included would be a note that his or her underlings will subsequently be sent a copy unless some public acknowledgment (a subtle signal is okay) of previous problems is made along with a promise of future positive behavior. Then, when the individual’s underlings are in place and no such acknowledgment is made, they are sent unsigned copies with a note that their boss previously received a signed copy and the conditions under which these copies were sent. And a press release informing the media of the second step.
Might improve organizational climate marvelously.
